About the Race

This summer, Lane County will play host to the 3rd annual Triathlon Eugene.  Triathlon Eugene will return to swim through Fern Ridge Reservoir, cycle a challenging tour of Lane County and run through the trees of Richardson Park. Athletes will have the opportunity to race either the Sprint or Olympic course with youth courses available for the all the triathletes of tomorrow.

Race Course

Triathlon Eugene will take athletes on a challenging tour showcasing Lane County. It will offer Sprint, Olympic and Youth Courses for Participants of all ages and skill levels. The swim will take place in Fern Ridge Reservoir, nestled in the Coast Range foothills; the bike course will send riders on a scenic, undulating tour with the Olympic Course before returning to Richardson Park for the final leg, the run. All Run Courses will utilize the Park’s internal roads and paths; the Olympic and Sprint Courses will venture outside of the Park on Clear Lake Road and return to Finish inside the Park.

TENTATIVE COURSE DISTANCES:

Olympic Course
.9m swim, 24 mile bike, 10k run

Sprint Course
.4m swim, 14 mile bike, 5k run

Youth Course 
Ages 7-10: 100m swim, 5k bike, 1k run
Ages 11-14: 200m swim, 10k bike, 2k run

USAT Rules and Regulations:

Triathlon Eugene is a USAT sanctioned event and therefore follows USAT rules. This applies to all courses.

KIDSPORTS

KIDSPORTS is a not-for-profit that has been helping "All kids play." in Lane County, Oregon since 1954. KIDSPORTS teaches children and families the value of physical fitness, sportsmanship, practice and teamwork through sports and activities. All children have the opportunity to play. Registration fees are kept as low as possible so more children can participate; scholarships are awarded to those who qualify.

Camping

Lane County Parks...Come out and play! In addition to the 88 site campground at Richardson Park, Lane County Parks will make dry camping available August 18th & 19th at Zumwalt Park located on the southwestern side of Fern Ridge. Please contact Lane County Parks to inquire about dry camping.

Camping in Lane County is a great experience and part of what will make Triathlon Eugene so much fun! You can enjoy family camping right at the race site. Richardson Park offers 88 camp sites, all have water, electric hookups, free use of dump station and accommodate RV/tents. Camping fees include access to day use areas. Camping is not included in your race entry fee.

Bike Shipping Information

Getting your bike shipped and built in time for race day can create anxiety, especially if you're new to triathlon. Triathlon Eugene has partnered with local bike shop and Orbea retailer, Paul's Bicycle Way of Life, to help reduce your anxiety.

Contact Paul's, well in advance of race day, to schedule your bike build so that it is ready for you when you want it. You can schedule your bike to be boxed and shipped after the race at the same time. Take care of the shipping arrangements to and from the shop and Paul's will take care of the rest. See below for details.

Paul's Bicycle Way of Life will offer Triathlon Eugene participants:

  • $30 flat rate to reassemble
  • Box storage
  • Bikes should be received by Friday, August 17, 2012
  • $40 to re-box
  • Road bike rentals: limited quantities (1-2 per size); reservations required well in advance
  • Reduced 1-day road rental rate of $48 for same day pick up and drop off; $16 each additional day
  • Wheels can be shipped; tires put on
  • Email matt@bicycleway.com to schedule shipment
  • Participant is responsible for shipping arrangements to and from Paul's. Paul's recommends shipping via FedEx.
